August 5, 2021:
A meeting with an employee of the Finnish Consulate in Petrozavodsk took place at the National Library.
On August 9, 2021, Finnish writer Tove Jansson would have turned 107. The world loves her as a fairy-tale writer who has created a unique world of moomins and other unusual creatures. On the eve of the birthday of the famous writer, a representative of the Finnish Consulate visited our library. The guest was interested in determining how popular the books by the Finnish author among the library readers are.
The library staff familiarized the guest with the books by Tove Jansson in Russian and Finnish, which are in the library's collection, showed the earliest edition – the book “Moominpappa Finds Friends. Excerpts from the Book The Exploits of Moominpappa" in Finnish published in 1985 by the Karjala publishing house, and the latest novelty – a modern reprint 2020 of the edition of “Moominpappa at Sea" published by the Azbuka Publishing House; they brought to the attention of the guest a Braille book for blind readers "Toy House" in 6 books (Repro Publishing House, 2014).
Tove Jansson's works about Moomins are loved by more than one generation of young readers. Children are always happy to meet the Moomins, who are so naive, vulnerable, kind and fair, sometimes eccentric, but always looking at life philosophically.
The Complete collection of comic strips by Tove Jansson Moomins with author's drawings in five volumes is an invariable success among teenage children. Published by Zangavar in 2017, this series is a real treat for comic book lovers. We can say that these are the writer's most popular books among modern teenagers. More recently, the National Library has wonderful new books about Moomins, addressed to children three years old. The stories for the youngest readers were written by Alex Haridi based on the stories by Tove Jansson. The books were published by Willie Winky Publishing House in 2020. The books have a foreword by Sofia Jansson, a Tove Jansson's niece and the Creative Director of Moomin Characters Ltd, as well as a short characterization of each character and a map of Moominvalley. Books with wonderful color illustrations and good stories are so liked by children and parents that they never stand on the shelves. They are being read!
Lovely, kind, interesting and at the same time instructive books by Tove Jansson live their own lives and fascinate every new generation of readers.
