06/05/2021. An international seminar provides an exchange of experience between colleagues-librarians
The National Library of Karelia organized and held an international web-seminar ”From a Point to a Book” with colleagues from the Library Association of the Republic of Belarus. The event was held in the framework of ”Agreement on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Karelia of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Belarus for 2021-2024”.
A welcoming speech was made by the Head of the National Library of Karelia Marina Nikishina. She noted the importance of the work of libraries in creating tactile books for children with disabilities.
On behalf of the Library Association of the Republic of Karelia, the executive director Valentina Lapichkova spoke; she presented the work of the Library Association of the Republic of Karelia and outlined the key points of joint professional work with colleagues from the Republic of Belarus. Olga Vovk, the Head of the Committee for Project Activities of the Belarusian Library Association, a professional of the Scientific Library of the Belarusian National Technical University, noted the importance of joint work and exchange of experience between our republics.
The main theme of the web-seminar was the use of tactile book when working with children with disabilities. A painter and a constructor of the National Library of Karelia Elena Fedorova told about requirements to creating tactile books and manuals and modern materials that are recommended for safe use. Ekaterina Dobrynina and Tatyana Savchenko, teachers-defectologists of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia, presented the methodology and experience of conducting classes for children with disabilities, using tactile books.
Viktorya Koroleva, a member of the Committee for Project Activities of the Belarusian Library Association, told about projects that are being implemented in the Republic of Belarus.
The meeting was productive, and all participants noted the importance of the international cooperation between libraries, and also agreed to hold such professional meetings online on a regular basis.
