27/04/2021. The awarding ceremony of the XXI competition "The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia 2020"
The National Library of Karelia held the awarding ceremony of the XXI competition "The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia 2020". The ceremony was attended by representatives of founders and organizers of the competition, members of expert groups, publishers and authors, distributors of book products, and lovers of reading.
In 2020, the regulations on the competition were amended. One of the main innovations is that the competition has become declarative.
From the 1st of February to the 5th of March, the applications have been collected. 107 applications were received for the competition, 68 books competed for the title “The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia”.
Traditionally, together with the competition, there was a republican exhibition "Book of the Year", where everyone can get acquainted with the editions received by the Book Chamber of the Republic of Karelia during the past 2020. In 2021, due to the ban on holding public events and in accordance with the recommendations of Rospotrebnadzor, the exhibition was held in a virtual format.
From the 15th to the 26th of March, expert commissions determined the winners in the following categories:
- Karelia = Karjala
- Book Art
- Cool Book
- Science Light
- Read and Re-read
- My Land and Its’ People
Within the framework of the competition “The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia”, a creative meeting with the authors and heroes of the book “Karelia. Eternal and New” was held.
At the ceremony, the winners in 6 categories were awarded diplomas and prizes.
From the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia, the Administration of the Petrozavodsk City District, the Tourism Department of the Republic of Karelia, the Society of Book Lovers, awarded special diplomas and prizes to a number of publishers and authors. The National Library gave the prize " Readers' Choice" according to the voting results of the virtual book exhibition.
