22/02/2021. The XV scientific conference Local Studies Days 2021 has ended
The National Library of Karelia held the XV scientific conference Local Studies Days 2021. The theme of the conference was Karelia in the Word, Text, Image.
Permanent organizers of the conference: the National Library of Karelia, the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Karelian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
For 15 years, the conference has been bringing together everyone who is interested in the development of the local history movement in the republic and local history research activities. Among the speakers there are leading experts in their field: scientists, teachers, specialists of museums, archives and libraries, as well as young researchers - students and graduate students of educational institutions, local historians of the city and the republic.
The combination of academic scientific reports and information about practical research in the field of local studies contributes to the unification and enrichment of the local history movement in the republic.
In 2007, at the first conference there was 31 reports, and the conference 2017 had the largest number of speakers - 75 speeches. Over the years, the conference was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the first All-Karelian Local Studies Conference (2012), the 180th anniversary of the National Library (2013), the 300th anniversary of the Russian police and the 100th anniversary of the Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the Olonets Governorate (2018), the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Republic Karelia and other memorable dates.
The year 2021 was declared the Year of Karelian Runes, and a number of reports on rune traditions and rune singers were presented at the conference. The sections Karelia in the Word, Text, Image; Cities and Districts of Karelia; Cultural Heritage of Karelia; Linguistic Studies; Names in the History of Karelia have worked during two days. The plenary session was dedicated to the images of Karelia in various spheres.
On the 18th of February a round table discussion The Images of Karelia: Creation, Perception, Fate was held. The reports by researchers aroused a lively discussion. The participants in the round table discussion considered the issues of creating images of Karelia, representation of the image row and image strategy of forming the image of Karelia in Russia and the world.
During the days of the conference, a book exhibition New Books about Karelia was exhibited, where local history publications published in 2020 were presented.
In 2021, due to the ban on holding public events, the scientific conference Local Studies Days was held online. For everyone, a live broadcast of the conference was organized, during which the conference participants could ask questions on the topic of the speech. The video recording of the conference will be available on the website of the National Library.
