25/12/2020. The National Library's partnership project with the city of Kalajoki creates a festive mood
Since autumn 2020, the National Library of the Republic of Karelia and the Administration of the city of Kalajoki (Finland), as part of their participation in the Russian-Finnish Cultural Forum, have implemented a joint initiative to familiarize the audience on both sides of the border with the New Year and Christmas traditions.
Specialists of the National Library, at the request of Finnish colleagues from the library of the city of Kalajoki, prepared a video story about the traditional Russian character The Snow Maiden (Rus. Snegurochka) and a video master class on making a New Year's decoration - a Snow Maiden doll. Videos and workshops were shared with the Kalajoki schools, and teachers used them during thematic lessons. Since the videos are in two languages (Russian and Finnish), they are also useful for children from Russia.
According to the reviews of Finnish colleagues, schoolchildren from Kalajoki were interested in the stories about the Snow Maiden and gladly took part in master classes, creating a festive mood for themselves and their parents.
Some of the project participants from Finnish schools sent their works to the National Library of Karelia to take part in the competition of creative works The Magic Christmas, which has been implemented in Karelia for many years. In addition, a video book with musical accompaniment was created of the works presented by Finnish children, the book can be viewed by everyone. Here you can also watch a video about the Snow Maiden, as well as take a New Year's master class.
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia is glad to cooperate with colleagues from Finland. We would like to thank the Kalajoki City Administration, the Kalajoki City Library and the schools that participated in the project for their interaction. It was nice to get positive reviews about our work from our Finnish colleagues. We hope that in the near future children from Karelia and Finland will be able to implement such initiatives together in an offline format.
