14/09/2020. Online meeting with the National Archives of Finland
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia has taken part in multilateral online negotiations organized by the National Archives of Finland.
The initiators of the meeting told the negotiators about a large-scale scientific project, which had received financial support from the Government of Finland. The project is aimed at collecting information, materials and documents about Finns in Russia and, in particular, in the neighbor territories.
The negotiations were attended by archives, museums, scientific and educational institutions from Russia, which had responded to the project proposal of the National Archives of Finland, announced within the framework of the Russian-Finnish Cultural Forum in 2020.
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia has confirmed its readiness to participate in the project, since its funds, as well as the funds of the controlled municipal libraries, contain many materials that could be useful to the project: newspapers, books and digitized materials. In the libraries of Karelia, a memorial function is being implemented on an ongoing basis.
Therefore, from generation to generation, library workers give information about local residents, including Finns living in the territory of Karelia, in the form of documents, records and even museum exhibits that form the collections of some library museums.
As a result of the negotiations, the parties agreed that further work on the project will be organized pointwise - in a bilateral format, between the National Archives of Finland and relevant organizations from Russia, which are ready to provide the necessary materials and documents for the project. If necessary, communication will also take place in an expanded mode, like this online meeting.
