24/02/2020. XIV scientific conference Local Studies Days 2020 has completed
February 19-20, 2020:
The National Library of Karelia held the scientific conference Local Studies Days 2020. The theme of the conference was 100th anniversary of the Republic of Karelia: Time. Events. People.
Permanent organizers of the conference: the National Library of Karelia, the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Karelian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
For many years, the conference has brought together everyone who is interested in the development of the local history movement in the republic and local history research activities.
Among the speakers there are leading experts in their field: scientists, teachers, specialists of museums, archives and libraries, as well as young researchers - students and graduate students of educational institutions, local historians of the city and the republic.
This year sections dedicated to anniversary dates and significant events worked. The section The Great Patriotic War in Local Studies was dedicated to the Year of Memory and Glory and the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
2020 has been declared the year of folk arts, within which attention will be paid to the preservation and development of the cultural heritage of small and endangered peoples and nationalities.
The sections The World of Language and Traditions of the Peoples of Karelia and The Cultural Heritage of Karelia: Object, Image, Word have worked for two days. The section Ortjo Stepanov. On the 100th Anniversary of the People’s Writer of Karelia was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Ortjo Stepanov.
Besides the work of the sections Political and Social History of Karelia, Education and Enlightenment: Dialogue of Generations, Person in History: Personality, Character, Fate took place. The plenary session Persons in the History of Karelia was dedicated to famous figures of science and culture.
On the 20th of February, the round table discussion The 100th Anniversary of Karelian Autonomy: The Phenomenon of the Anniversaries of the Republic took place.
Thanks to cooperation with the National Archive of the Republic of Karelia, a photo exhibition of documents from the archive funds was organized in the National Library. During the conference days, a great interest was also aroused by the traditional book exhibition New Books about Karelia, where local publications published in 2019 were presented, and thematic exhibitions Ortjo Stepanov. To the 100th Anniversary of the People's Writer of Karelia and The 100th Anniversary of the Karelian Autonomy.
