18/03/2020. Shevchenko’s Days at the National Library of Karelia

For many years, the National Library of Karelia together with the Karelian Public Organization Society of Ukrainian Culture Kalina has been conducting traditional Shevchenko’s Days.
This year, the theme of the meeting was two figures of Ukrainian culture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky is one of the most original Ukrainian prose writers, the author of the famous novel Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors.
Mykola Leontovych is an Ukrainian composer and choral conductor, author of well-known arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs for choir. His arrangement Shchedryk is the most famous Christmas song.
Svetlana Rukavishnikova, the Chairman of the Society of Ukrainian Culture Kalina, began a meeting with speech about Shevchenko, and then an unofficial anthem of Ukraine was played. Shevchenko’s Days always open with this song that.
Vitaliy Fartushny, the Professor of the Petrozavodsk State Conservatory, Honored Artist of Ukraine, Honored Artist of Karelia, founder and first chairman of the Society of Ukrainian Culture Kalina told about Mykola Leontovych. An employee of the library Irina Kondratyeva told about Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky.
As always, at the Shevchenko’s Days, Ukrainian speech and songs were performed by the choir Ukrainska Pisnya. The artistic director of the choir is Klara Stasyuk, the Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation and Honored Artist of Karelia.
