The XX anniversary exhibition The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia 2019 began its work at the National Library of the Republic of Karelia. The exhibition annually marks the beginning of the national competition The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia 2019.
16 publishing houses and 36 publishing organizations presented 396 publications. There are local literature, production, educational and business literature, works by Karelian writers, books for children and literature in national languages among them. The annual competition is a big event in the cultural life of the republic. It demonstrates an objective picture of the current state of the book publishing industry. As a rule, the laureate books of the competition are unique and highly-artistic publications prepared at a high printing level. The competition The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia has earned high prestige in the republic. It has become very prestigious for publishers to be called a "winner" of the competition. Media sources write and speak about the laureate books.
The book products published in the Republic of Karelia and got by the Book Chamber as a legal deposit copy from January 1 to December 31, 2019 participate in the competition. Everyone can vote for their favorite book in the category Reader's Choice
On the 17th of March, the first meeting of the organizing committee of The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia was held.
