21/05/2019. Petrozavodsk will become the Library Capital of Russia

In Tula, the Library Capital of Russia in 2019, the Russian Library Congress: the XXIV Annual Conference of the Russian Library Association completed its work.
The final plenary session and the closing ceremony took place. The results of the election of vice-presidents and members of the Board of the Russian Library Association were announced, medals and certificates of honor of the Russian Library Association were presented, and young professionals from the region were dedicated to the profession. More than 400 reports were made at 43 venues.
Discussions, exchange of experience and impressions, exploring the region and interaction with library communities of other regions became important components of the forum.
By the decision of the Russian Library Association dated May 12, 2019, certificates “For Contribution to the Development of Libraries” were awarded to Svetlana Valkova, Chief Librarian of The Department of Information and Reference Service of the National Library, Valentina Lapichkova, Scientific Secretary of the National Library and Executive Director of the Karelian Library Association.
The Minister of Culture of the Tula Region, T. V. Rybkina, wished further success in the library field and thanked all the Forum participants for their active work at the congress venues, for their positive attitude, creativity and professionalism, and noted the special spirit of the library community.
At the solemn closing ceremony, Petrozavodsk was declared the Library Capital of Russia of 2020. The Minister of Culture of the Tula Region, T. V. Rybkina, congratulated the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karelia V. N. Lebedeva on this significant event. A samovar as a symbol of warmth and friendliness was presented.
V. N. Lebedeva said that it is a great honor for us to host the Congress in Petrozavodsk in 2020 and welcomed everyone to the hospitable Karelian land in 2020. It is gratifying that this event will take place in the year of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Karelia.
