18/02/2019. The results of the XIII scientific conference Local Studies Days

The National Library of the Republic of Karelia held the XIII annual Scientific Conference Local Studies Days on the theme “Book, reading, information: transformation in time”. The conference united professional and amateur researchers who study history, culture, printed and handwritten heritage of Karelia.
Organizers of the event: the National Library of Karelia and Institute of Language, Literature and History of Karelian Research Centre of RAS.
At the conference, plenary reports were made by Doctor of Philology Elena Markova, architect Elena Itsikson and Doctor of Philology Alexander Pigin. The conference participants took part in work of the sections “Handwritten and printed heritage of Karelia”, “Linguistic regional studies”, “Historical sources, information, interpretations”, “Mass media: regional aspect”, “Literature, reading and education”.
At the section ”Linguistic regional studies”, a poster presentation on the theme ”The Second Novgorod glossary of 1431: the oldest dictionary containing Bulgarian words”. The author of the presentation is an independent scientist,
comparative linguist Diyan D. Zhelyazkov. Due to this report, the conference became international. In total, the conference participants were offered 60 reports and presentations.
At the final plenary session, the presentation of publications of the Karelian Research Center took place.
On the International Book Giving Day, the National Library received new books published by the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Belomorsk Central District Library. The library was replenished with the following editions: “Bylins of Zaonezhye”, “Toponymic models of Karelia in the space-time context”, “Russian-Vepsian Phrasebook”, N. Zaitseva “Virantanaz”, collection “We give these words to Belomorsk”. At the plenary session, G. G. Galanisheva, the Head of the IT Department of the National Library, acquainted the conference participants with new electronic publications prepared by the National Library: In the footsteps of the Monarchic Road, Kalevala. Osmo Borodkin. Mjud Mechev, Georgy Stronk and others.
During the days of the conference, participants could familiarize themselves with the books at the exhibition “New Books about Karelia” and purchase local publications at the bookstall of the National Library.
Following the conference, an electronic edition will be prepared. The conference participants noted the high level of reports that aroused great interest among the audience.
