11/02/2019. Opening of the exhibition "Orphaned Coast" in memory of the lost Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God

The National Library of Karelia opened the exhibition "Orphaned Coast" in memory of the lost Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Kondopoga.
The authors of the paintings are well-known Karelian artists: Vladimir Lobanov, Valentin Chekmasov, Boris Akbulatov, Valery Koshelev, Alexander Kashtanov, Oleg Yuntunen, Badri Topuriya and Nelli Grigorieva. Thanks to their talent, the memory of the beauty of the lost church will be forever alive.
The theme of loss united graphic works and paintings made by different authors in different years. The earliest are the drawings made in 1988 by Valeriy Koshelev. Color etchings were made from 1989 to 1991 by Oleg Yuntunen. Valentin Chekmasov painted an oil sketch in 1990. In 2016, the latest works were created by Vladimir Lobanov, Badri Topuriya and Nelli Grigorieva. We thank all the authors – participants of the exhibition for their works.
At the opening of the exhibition, Svetlana Kuspak, the Chief Specialist of the Department for Protection of Cultural Heritage Objects of the Republic of Karelia, made a speech. She expressed the hope that the spiritual content of the monument could be restored. She said, that the exhibition is dedicated not only to the memory of the Dormition Church, but also to the hope of its restoration.
Olga Yuntunen, the curator of the exhibition, the Honored Artist of the Republic of Karelia, the Member of the Union of Artists of Russia, invited everyone to get acquainted with works by Karelian artists.
The Rector of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral Ioann Terenyak thanked the organizers of the exhibition “Orphaned Coast” for the attention to the memory of the lost Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in the city of Kondopoga.
