28/12/2018. Literary evening of Alexander Volkov
The national writer of Karelia celebrated his 90th anniversary at the National Library.
On the 25th of December 2018 the conference room of the National Library of Karelia was full. Friends, admirers and officials gathered for a meeting, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the national writer of Karelia A. L. Volkov.
The meeting began with the Karelian hymn in Karelian performed by the choir Oma pajo. The text of the hymn was translated into Livvi-Karelian by Alexander Volkov.
In the evening, guests performed Alexander Lukich's verses in Karelian and Russian languages, sang songs on poems by the hero of the day and told memories of past years about extraordinary and talented person, the hero of our meeting, who was successful in various fields of his professional activity. There were sincere congratulations and words of appreciation, wishes of health and creative longevity.
A series of official greetings took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere; each speaker has a good memory of contacts with the poet, with his works. The hero of the anniversary was congratulated by: the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Karelia on social issues Larisa Podsadnik, the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Regional Policy and the Problems of the North and the Far East, a Member of the Board of Trustees of the National Library Valentina Pivnenko, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karelia Aleksei Lesonen; the Acting First Deputy Minister of National and Regional Policy Alexandra Ershova; the Minister of Construction of the Republic of Karelia Oleg Ermolaev.
The meeting was attended by the literary and national creative community. Literary sphere colleagues came to congratulate Alexander Lukich: Oleg Moshnikov, Georgy Chernobrovkin, Ivan Savin and representatives of the publishing houses Periodika and Ostrova.
Congratulations were made in Karelian language. The hero of the anniversary was congratulated
by the representatives of the Union of Karelian people (Karjalan Rahvahan liitto), the national editorial board of the Karelian radio, etnocultural centre of the Pryazha District, Essoila secondary school and Olonets Central Library System. The professionals of the Essoila etnocentre send their video greetings.
Poems by Alexander Lukich are rhythmic and musical, Evgeny Shorokhov and Fedor Kuzmin performed songs on author’s poems.
During the evening, new editions of books by A. L. Volkov were presented: Liivin virret published in 17 languages of Finno-Ugric peoples and a collection of poems Minä muailman näin... The collection of poems contains translations of poems by Russian and Soviet authors into Karelian language made by A. L. Volkov.
Alexander Lukich has translated into Karelian poems of the Golden Age of Russian literature (Pushkin, Derzhavin, Lermontov, Tyutchev). Besides there are translations on poems of the Silver Age: Blok, Akhmatova, Mandelshtam in the book. In addition to translations of classics of Russian literature, the collection includes poems by Karelian poets translated by Volkov into Karelian.
