26/10/2018. Opening of the exhibition Praise to the Children's Book
October 27, 2018:
In the frameworks of the cultural program The Days of Sweden in Petrozavodsk, the National Library of Karelia opened an exhibition Praise to the Children's Book. Mårten Frankby, the Consul Responsible for issues concerning Sweden culture and economic cooperation, opened the exhibition prepared by the Swedish Academy for Children's Books. He noted the high importance of Swedish literature in Russia and invited everyone to get acquainted with the exhibition and the authors of Swedish children's literature.
The Swedish Academy for Children's Books praises the children's literature with help of this exhibition. The Swedish Academy for Children's Books is an association which does not have a political or religious agenda, the purpose of it is to strengthen and enrich the reading experience of a wide children's audience.
Immediately after the opening of the exhibition in the library, events for children and adults took place: a master class Viking Ships and a lecture for parents, educators and librarians, dedicated to Swedish children's literature. The lecture and master class were held by Maria Schurova, a specialist of Children's Library, and Kirill Schurov, a family psychologist (Saint-Petersburg).
The participants of the interactive lesson plunged into the attractive world of the Viking era together with a book Folket i Birka by Swedish authors Mats Wahl, Björn Ambrosian and Sven Nordqvist, learned a lot about Viking trips and made a carton model of a warship with a dragon's head.
At the lecture Not just a Picture. The Phenomenon of Swedish Preschool Literature, parents, educators and librarians learned why Swedish children’s literature is so popular. Sweden is famous for its very special attitude to children, and more precisely, the attitude towards children here is no less serious than towards adults. Children's literature in Sweden is very authentic, has a high status and reflects trends of adult literature.
