The National Library of the Republic of Karelia took part in celebration of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. The event was organized by the Department of Culture and Public Relations of the Administration of Petrozavodsk Urban District and was held in the Social and Cultural Center of Non-profit Organizations of Petrozavodsk.
As a part of the event the participants read translations of Kalevala, the national brand of Karelia, into languages of peoples living in Karelia. The National Library of the Republic of Karelia provided texts of Kalevala in Karelian, Vepsian, Polish, Armenian, and Ukranian for these "national readings". Besides there was a poster exhibition Inspiring World of Kalevala. Guests of the holiday got acquainted with unique editions of the epic poem in different languages, i.e. English, German, Latin, Vietnamese, Czech and other, a poster exhibition and an exhibition of engravings by a famous Moscow painter and illustrator of Kalevala Miud Mechev composed of the collection of the National Library.
