November 15, 2014:
Specialists of the National Library of Karelia took part in festive events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Tove Jansson.
The librarians from Karelia organized a cultural event Moominvalley dedicated to the traditional Game Day in Finland in the City Library of Hämeenlinna. There were many events in the library, and Finnish readers took part in various activities.
Librarians from the city of Kondopoga showed a cartoon about plasticine Moomins made by Children's Cartoon Studio and an exhibition of paintings. After that at a workshop they were teaching children to make keychains in the shape of Moomins. Children were very delighted, because they could see cartoon characters on the screen and also take them into hands.
Specialists of the National Library of Karelia also held workshops. Jaana Zhemoitelite invited children to write their own story about Moomins. At the end of the day a big roll of paper was filled with children’s stories. Ksenia Mihailova taught children how to make fantastic beings of craft pipe cleaners and hats of crepe paper.
Families with children were the main visitors of workshops. Parents were making souvenirs together with their children. At the end of the Game Day the Library of the City of Hämeenlinna was visited by a group of librarians from Kazakhstan. They were in Finland while studying. They visited workshops of their colleagues from Karelia and said that they learned much new and were going to use new practices in their work. The holiday was multinational, and it proves once again that literature and creativity know no boundaries.
