In 2010 the Library has released a new Internet service named The Reader’s personal Cabinet.
Today readers can on the Internet:
• use an electronic library card to extend the loan-period of the books borrowed from the departments of the Library,
• order and receive in an electronic form articles published in magazines and anthologies (incl. musical collections), local periodicals, and articles related to study of foreign languages that were included in the Electronic catalog of the National Library of Karelia. The electronic copies of the articles are sent to the reader in the form of graphic files for temporary storage.
The life of a modern library is very dynamic and various: new technologies, new ideas and new plans! Now we present you a short review about the most important activities of the Library in 2010.
Some statistics ...
• In 2010 120 966 persons have visited our library, of which 74 366 have visited our sites.
• Our readers have been to the library 645 236 times and read 978 414 books and other publications.
• The Library’s collection consists of 1 648 981 copies.
• The Library has received 16 006 new books, periodicals, newspapers and CDs.
• The Electronic catalog of the Library contains 1 084 349 titles. In a year 312 225 searches have been conducted, of which 167 509 on computers located outside the Library.
• The readers have received 233 905 electronic publications via the Internet.
• The Library’s website has been visited 427 991 times.
• We partner with more than 120 state and public organizations, non-profit foundations and individuals from 16 countries.
• We have organized more than 500 different events, that have been visited by 23 513 persons, including excursions, presentations, literature reviews, musical evenings, meetings with writers, film exhibitions, meetings of clubs etc.
• The specialists of the Library have prepared 20 virtual exhibitions, that were devoted to different anniversaries and events.
