30/10/2017. The great poet of small peoples
On the October 27, 2017, in the National Library of Karelia the title of The People’s Writer of the Republic of Karelia was given to Nikolai Abramov, the title was awarded to the writer posthumously. In a solemn atmosphere the memorial sign was accepted by Nikolai Abramov’s sister Taisiya Fedotova.
Nikolai Abramov is a Russian and Vepsian writer, translator and journalist. He is an author of the first book of Vepsian poetry. Member of Writer’s Union since 1998, Union of Journalists since 2003, board member of the International Association of Finno-Ugric Writers since 2010, Honored Worker of Culture of the Republic of Karelia. Poems by Nikolai Abramov were translated from Vepsian into Russian, Finnish, Estonian, Swedish, French, Norwegian, Hungarian and languages of the Finno-Ugric peoples of Russia.
The title of The People’s Writer of the Republic of Karelia was awarded to the writer by decree of the Head of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov for ”creation of outstanding highly artistic works of literature, which received wide public recognition, and a great contribution to preservation and development of the culture, language and literature of the Vepsian people".
The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karelia Aleksei Lesonen solemnly handed over the memorial sign to the relatives of the writer.
At a solemn ceremony speeches were made by Nina Zaitseva, the Head of the sector of linguistics of the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History (Karelian Research Centre of Russian Academy of Sciences), and Elena Markova, the Head of the sector of Literary science of the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History. Speakers remembered Nikolai Abramov with warm words; Nikolai was their friend and writer and has made an invaluable contribution to the culture of the Vepsian people, Vepsian language and literature.
Elena Migunova, the Deputy Minister of the National and Regional politics of the Republic of Karelia, gave a rare book to the National Library – an anthology "Poetry", which is a collection of fifty poems by poets writing in languages of the peoples of Russia. In the book, the reader will find also seven poems by Nikolai Abramov.
Svetlana Pasyukova, a member of the Society of Vepsian Culture, remembered Nikolai Abramov with warm words. She noted that Nikolai was an optimist, he knew how to find joy in life and was always ready to share his creativity and his joy with friends and readers.
The main theme of the event was of course poems by the author. A specialist of the library Artem Ivanov read poems from a poetic collection Pagiškam, vel’l’ by Nikolai Abramov. The participants heard poems performed by poet when they watched a fragment of the video
