19/03/2013. The VII Scientific Conference "Local Studies Days"
On the 14th and 15th of February 2013 the VII Scientific Conference “Local Studies Days” devoted to the 180th anniversary of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia.
The conference was organized by the National Library of Karelia and the Institute for Language, Literature and History of RAS. For seven years the conference has been bringing together people interested in development of local studies in the republic.
At plenary sessions and sections ”Culture. Library Studies. Literature”, “History of Local Linguistics”, “History”, “Ethnography. Folklore. Historical Geography” reports and presentations on history, education, culture, languages, literature, library science and museum business were presented. 66 reports were made in general, and the conference was attended by 150 persons. At the conference there were participants from Belomorsk, Kondopoga, Louhi, Segezha districts and Petrozavodsk. Participants have noted that such conferences, which can be attended by young researchers, amateur local historians and professional in the field of scientific research, are necessary for development of local studies. These conferences are becoming a sort of laboratory for young scientists, where they can get advice from more experienced researchers.
