February 27 and 28, 2024:
The National Library of Karelia presents the Kalevala Days in Moscow at the Rossija International Expo and Forum at VDNKH.
Visitors to the stand of the Republic of Karelia at VDNH will enjoy a rich program prepared by the staff of the National Library. Interactive programs Heroes and Characters of Kalevala, Kalevala on the Map of Karelia, With Paint, Line, Heart: Illustrators of Kalevala, Translations of Kalevala will help not only to get acquainted with the epic poems and the main characters of Kalevala, but also see the cultural influence that Kalevala had on artists, literature, theatre, and public life in Russia and the world.
The guests of the stand will also be treated to a trip to Fairytale Karelia. During The Riddles from a Birch-bark knapsack master class, visitors to the stand will be able to see elements of ancient Karelian clothing, dolls in national costumes, Karelian musical instruments – all this will be hidden in a birch bark box knapsack. An intellectual journey through Karelia and The Mystery of the Karelian Doll program will allow guests to plunge into the mysteries of the puppet world and create a Karelian doll amulet with their own hands.
On February 27 at 13, there will be a seminar dedicated to translations of the Karelian-Finnish epic poem Kalevala at the M. I. Rudomino Library of Foreign Literature. Elena Saikonen, Chief Librarian of the Department of National and Local Literature and Bibliography of the National Library of Karelia, will present a report “Collection of Translations of the Karelian-Finnish epic poem Kalevala from the Collections of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia”. A live broadcast will be organized for everyone.
