26/08/2013. The First Russian Mobile Library Festival
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia participated in the First Russian Mobile Library Festival, which took place on the 14th – 15th of August 2013 in the town of Dmitrov in the Moscow region.
The organizers of the Festival: The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, The Ministry of Culture of the Moscow region, the Non-profit foundation Pushkin Library and the Administration of the Dmitrovsky municipal district of the Moscow region.
The festival was attended by employees responsible for mobile library services and specialists on mobile cultural and educational services which can be implemented on the basis of mobile libraries.

The geography of the participants was diverse: from Komi to Belgorod, from Karelia to Nizhnevartovsk. The mobile library of the National Library of Karelia and 20 mobile libraries from other regions opened its doors to the festival participants and residents of Dmitrov.

In the main square of the town different types of mobile libraries were presented: buses, minibuses and mobile centers. Each participant of the festival has prepared a unique program. Employees of the National Library of Karelia presented the creative and educational module The Inspiring World of the Epic Poem Kalevala in their mobile library. The module is a unique fusion of various art forms based on the information resources of the library.

The guests of the mobile library of Karelia saw a collection of Kalevala editions in many world languages, took part in workshops, played intellectual games and heard the sound of kantele. They also learned about the history of Kalevala and transformation of the epic poem in different types of art. Everyone could leaf through a tactile book The Birth of Kantele given by The Library for the Blind of the Republic of Karelia. Children and adults were interested in Margarita Kempainen's collection of dolls in national costumes of the Karelians and a workshop on doll making.

The task of The First Russian Mobile Library Festival was to present mobile services in its variety, share experiences, and also to develop basic principles, promising directions and modern forms for the mobile services. At the seminar participants discussed the most interesting partnership and network projects, learned about the program of training webinars for specialists of the mobile libraries and discussed performance measures for mobile libraries.
