The National Library of Karelia held a program dedicated to the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture.
A specialist of the Subdepartment of Rare Books of the National Library Nadezhda Kipnis told about the creators of the Slavic alphabet – Byzantine monks and enlighteners Cyril and Methodius, about the secrets of two alphabets: the Glagolitic and the Cyrillic, the meaning of writing system creation to the development of culture and education of the state of Russia.
The participants of the event got acquainted with books from the rare books collection of the library. The book exhibition presented facsimile reproductions of the Azbuka (Eng. Alphabet book, 1574) by Ivan Fyodorov and Bukvar (Eng. ABC Book, 1694) by Karion Istomin, ancient Russian manuscripts, books about life and activities of Cyril and Methodius, etc.
The great present for the participants of the event was a performance of men’s vocal ensemble of spiritual and secular music Rospev. The audience welcomed enthusiastically music by Russian composers and Russian folk songs.
