The National Library of the Republic of Karelia held a great book fair Do not dream of living without books. The book fair was organized in collaboration with the Alliance of Independent Publishers and Booksellers of the Russian Federation.
The opening ceremony of the book fair was attended by Valentina Ulich, the Deputy Head of Karelia on social issues, Marina Nikishina, the Head of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia, Alexander Kononov, a member of the Alliance of Independent Publishers and Booksellers of the Russian Federation. The fair was visited by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karelia Elena Bogdanova, the first deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karelia Irina Anikina, Emilia Slabunova, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Education, Culture, Sport and Youth of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia, specialists of ministries and institutions of Karelia.
The fair has become a real feast for the lovers of reading. Despite the first days of Indian summer, those were inviting to go to the country, about a thousand citizens of Petrozavodsk visited the National Library and did not regret it. The fair was interesting for adult readers and children: there were books for every taste and age. About 20 publishing houses presented their books at the fair, among them there were also publishers from Moscow and St-Petersburg.
The rich variety of wonderful, unique, beautifully designed books for children and adults satisfied even the most demanding visitors. Books were offered by professionals who know and love the book and are ready to tell a lot of interesting about each edition. By the way, they noticed a genuine interest and readiness of buyers. So, our holiday was attended by true book lovers.
The particular interest was aroused by children's literature. Success was accompanied by master classes and presentations of books, held by the best publishers, working in this field: "Samokat" (Moscow), "Polyandriya" (Moscow), "Kompas-gid" (Moscow) and "Karyera Press" (Moscow).
Communication was continued both at the book stands and in the master classes. In the halls of the library, where were sunny and friendly atmosphere, fascinating conversations on the history of books and reading of the play based on the novel by Vladimir Nabokov "King, Queen, Knave” took place.
It was the first book fair of this scale in Karelia. It has become a true feast of book, reading and cultural communication. And many grateful visitors hope that this initiative of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia will become a good tradition.
