The National Library held a presentation of the book Vera’s Son: Robert Rozhdestvensky and Karelia. The book was prepared by the National Writer of Karelia Marat Tarasov, who have made friends with the poet from his student years, and the Honored Journalist of Karelia Yury Shleikin. The book was published with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia in the publishing house Ostrova.
The book tells about pages of life of the famous poet Robert Rozhdestvensky connected with Karelia. A special section is composed of memories of the poet's mother Vera Rozhdestvenskaya, memories are published for the first time.
Among the speakers at the presentation there were the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karelia Anna Tomchik, the author of the book Yury Shleikin and the Chief Editor of the Sever Magazine Elena Pietiliainen.
Robert Rozhdestvensky Award holders Aleksandr Kashirin and Dmitry Kosmin read their poems, the National Writer of Karelia Aleksandr Volkov read poems by Rozhdestvensky translated into Karelian language.
The event was attended by citizens of Petrozavodsk, who met the famous poet in life, for example, Robert Rozhdestvensky’s course mates from the Petrozavodsk State University and also admirers of his poems. The participants saw and heard performances by Robert Rozhdestvensky that have been captured on film at different times.
The book Vera’s Son: Robert Rozhdestvensky and Karelia is sold in the book stall of the National Library of Karelia.
