13/05/2024. Opening of the Arts’ Island exhibition
May 13, 2024:
The National Library of Karelia opened the Arts’ Island exhibition dedicated to a unique project, which is being implemented by the Karelian branch of the Union of Artists of Russia on the territory of the Vodlozersky National Park.
At the opening ceremony, the following speakers spoke and talked about how the Arts’ Island had been created: Anna Prushinskaya, Head of the Department of Environmental Education and Tourism of the Vodlozersky National Park, creators of art objects Vladimir Zorin – artist, designer, Honoured Artist of Karelia, Chairman of the Karelian regional branch of the Union of Artists of Russia, Victoria Zorina – artist, Honoured Worker of Culture of Karelia.
The goal of the project, supported by the Presidential Grants Fund, was to create a new art space in a protected natural area, an interesting place to visit for tourists and a place for the implementation of creative ideas. Artists from Petrozavodsk, St. Petersburg, Omsk and Veliky Novgorod gathered on the protected island to create compositions that symbolise the nature reserve.
The exhibition tells how the art space was born, i.e. locations determination, selection of sketches and materials and creation of unusual installations, which together made up a collective portrait of Vodlozerye – a region of rare beauty, natural diversity and historical heritage. The uniqueness of the project is that the nature itself became the canvas for the participating artists: the created compositions fit perfectly into the protected landscape.
Visitors to the Arts’ Island exhibition in the exhibition hall of the National Library were presented with an interesting story of the creation of a new point of attraction for guests of our republic.
