15/09/2026. Opening of the 14th Model Library in Karelia
On September 15, the grand opening of the modernized Sosnovets Rural Library – now a centre for environmental culture within the Belomorsk Municipal District – took place.
This is the second model library in the district, opened because of the precise and professional collaboration of republican and municipal authorities, the regional project office, and the library staff.
A key priority for the renovated library is engaging local families in the environmental agenda and fostering a family-led nature conservation movement; this initiative aims to strengthen family bonds while instilling an environmental culture among the younger generation. Innovative design and lighting solutions have created special functional zones, i.e. an information foyer, a circulation area, an Eco-Hall, and Aquatoria, a children's reading room. A new digital resource titled Sosnovets – My Beloved Village! has also been launched to serve as a foundation for exploring the region's history, ecology, and culture.
The opening ceremony was attended by Irina Kuzicheva, a deputy of the Republic's Legislative Assembly; Irina Filippova, Head of the Belomorsk Municipal District; and various partners and friends of the library. The model library received video greetings from Olga Lyubimova, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, and Andrey Shibanov, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karelia.
Inna Nazukova, Chief Methodologist at the Research and Methodology Department, said congratulations on behalf of the National Library of the Republic of Karelia (the regional project office for the Family national project) and the Library Association of the Republic of Karelia, presenting gifts and a congratulatory address.
We wish the library staff endless inspiration, new ideas, and brilliant projects, and we wish the readers and residents of Sosnovets engaging encounters and enjoyable leisure time within the library's cosy atmosphere.
