27/03/2025. New edition of The Golden Kalevala presented at the National Library of Karelia

The National Library of Karelia held an evening dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Scandinavia Publishing House.
The main event of the evening was the presentation of the new edition of The Golden Kalevala. The publication was prepared for the 190th anniversary of the first edition of the Karelian-Finnish epic poem. The book is illustrated with reproductions of oil paintings by Vladimir Fomin, artist and native of Tomsk who has lived in Petrozavodsk for over 30 years. The preface and selection of lines were made by Doctor of Philology Elena Soini. Each spread contains selected lines of a rune, a preamble revealing its brief content and a reproduction of Vladimir Fomin's painting. In total, the book includes 54 paintings.
The Scandinavia publishing house was founded on January 5, 2000. In 2025, the publishing house celebrates its 25th anniversary. Scandinavia publishes books on various fields of knowledge: memoirs of famous people in the republic, local history publications, and art albums. A good quality of printing and a high level of printing performance distinguish the publications. The publishing house's books have repeatedly become winners of the Book of the Year republican competition.
On February 27, Mikhail Skripkin, Head of the Scandinavia publishing house, accepted congratulations. Tatyana Tishkova, Chairperson of the Committee on Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia, congratulated the publishing house staff. Andrey Shibanov, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karelia, in his speech noted the quality of Scandinavia's printed products. Ekaterina Reutova, Deputy Head of the Administration of the Petrozavodsk City District, in her speech emphasized Scandinavia's publications dedicated to Petrozavodsk and the city's enterprises. Alexander Khantsevich, Deputy Chairman of the Petrozavodsk City Council, presented the Scandinavia publishing house with an honorary diploma of the Petrozavodsk City Council and letters of thanks.
That evening, congratulations were also heard from the National Museum of the Republic of Karelia, the Kizhi State Ethnographic Museum-Reserve, the Kivach Nature Reserve and other friends of the publishing house.
