09/10/2025. Let’s Read about the Arctic: a unique exhibition in the library
October 9, 2025:
In the exhibition hall of the National Library of Karelia, an educational exhibition Let’s Read about the Arctic dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Northern Sea Route was opened.
The library collection contains plenty of books about the Arctic: these are fairy tales for children and adventure novels for adults, popular science publications about animals and books about the discoverers of northern lands, poems and polar diaries of travelers.
The exhibition helps readers navigate the vast "books ocean." Information stands offer literature on ten different Arctic topics. Glass display cases feature of northern animals, a model of the North Pole-1 drifting station, a toy Eskimo camp, and much more: the exhibition's collection is designed to reveal the meaning of books, especially for children.
A big interactive zone will give visitors a chance to ”interact” with the Arctic: examine moss and eiderdown under a microscope, follow the Northern Sea Route on a map, and play the exclusive magnetic game "Russia's Icebreaker Fleet."
The exhibition is the central event of the Let’s Read about the Arctic project which was supported by the Project Office for Arctic Development (PORA).
