02/09/2026. Learning is an adventure! Knowledge Day with the National Library of Karelia
September 1, 2026:
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia hosted the Knowledge Day with the National Library of Karelia and the eighth anniversary of the Children's Reading Centre.
The rich program turned the first day of school into a real intellectual adventure!
During the School Turmoil of Bygone Eras program, primary school students and their parents embarked on an educational historical journey. The young participants expanded their knowledge of the schools of Ancient Rus', learned about the subjects taught to students at the Institute for Noble Maidens, "visited" a Sea cadet school, and saw symbols of the Soviet school.

High school students tested their knowledge at the educational program Obvious? Incredible! They visited improvised "laboratories of the past." They learned unusual facts about the lives of great scientists, writers, and educators from across Russia. The program demonstrated that science is useful and engaging, and that our country's cultural heritage and scientific potential are truly boundless. The meeting inspired participants to make new discoveries and explore history.
For one hour, the doors of the old medical school opened to high school students from Petrozavodsk. They took on the roles of scientists, museum keepers, and librarians. Using modern technology, the participants connected fragments of knowledge and brought forgotten discoveries to life.
Studying the history of education and scientific discoveries does not replace addressing pressing issues. The start of a new school year requires good preparation! So, high school students beefed up their knowledge and gained a boost of energy and positivity at the Back to School! intellectual quiz competition. A good mood and a confident start to the new school year were guaranteed!
Throughout the day, teachers, students, and their parents enjoyed the Read, Play, Draw creative area at the Children's Reading Centre and the Knowledge Day in Photo festive photo zone in the Winter Garden of the National Library.
If you missed the celebration, we invite you to check out our online programs. A virtual journey through newspapers and magazines, Publishing a Wall Newspaper, invites you to travel back in time to school and discover what Knowledge Day was like for girls and boys just like you 20, 30, and even 80 years ago!
For our youngest readers, we offer a trip to space! Yes, you read that right! We are preparing for great things from an early age! An educational online lesson using tactile books, Ready to Fly!, will help them with this!
The celebration is over, but the most exciting part is yet to come! The National Library of Karelia will be hosting book and art exhibitions scheduled for the holiday program on this day and throughout September!
