The National Library of Karelia held the opening ceremony of The Indian Beauty exhibition consisting of faximile copies of pictures by Nicholas and Svyatoslav Roerich held in the museums of India and Nicholas Roerich Museum in New-York.
Marina Nikishina, Head of the National Library of Karelia, opened the exhibition; she noted that the patrons of the library are very interested in the work of the Karelian Nicholas Roerich Centre. Irina Mamontova, Member of the Union of Artists of Russia, explained the importance of the event. The participants of the event were astonished with the wonderful mountain landscape painted by Svyatoslav Roerich.
After the opening of the exhibition, a special musical evening took place. The concert of three musicians were not only the accompaniment to the exhibition but also a separate artistic expression – the live improvisation gave the audience a chance to listen to Roerichs’ paintings through sound, pause and a moment of pure art.
The trio consisted of Andrey Primerov (singer), Irina Smirnova (piano) and Sergey Kozakov (percussion). Their joint sound was born without pre-prepared scores, but with a deep attention paid to the space, sense and interaction. In this free form, the sound of each instrument revealed itself especially brightly. The musicians did not illustrated the paintings – in their improvisation one could hear the mighty of the Himalayas, and the subtle spiritual intonation which is typical for Indian imagery in the art of the Roerichs.
