December 24, 2015:
The holiday program Christmas without Borders was held in the National Library of the Republic of Karelia. National public organizations participated in the program. Our guests learned about how the Christmas and the New Year are celebrated in Greece, Estonia, Mari El and Ukraine, about New Year traditions and ceremonies of these peoples.
At the holiday there were performances by creative groups of societies of national cultures. The guest from Greece Irina Kolganova made a presentation about the features of the celebration of Christmas in Greece. The student of Petrozavodsk Art School Sofia Kolesova played a waltz by A. Ivanov-Kramskoi on a guitar. The duo from Ukrainian folk choir enjoyed success. Society The Mari of Karelia showed a film Shoryk’ol (Eng. Sheep’s leg) dedicated to the national holiday which coincides with the Christmas.
The National Library prepared a book exhibition Christmas without Borders. Our guests were really interested in dolls in national costumes and other exhibits.
