19/12/2016. Christmas without Borders
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia held a holiday program Christmas without Borders attended by members of national public organizations of Petrozavodsk. The guests learned about celebration of Christmas and New Year in Finland, Poland and the Republic of Karelia and about New Year traditions and rituals of these peoples.
Elena Barbashina, the Chairman of the Karelia-Finland Friendship Society, opened the event. She revealed the secrets of Finnish festive dishes. Carolyna Pyka, a guest from Poland, made a presentation about the features of the celebration of Christmas in her home country. The holiday atmosphere was created by Yury Mugachev, an activist of the Society of Vepsian Culture. Anna Anhimova, the Head of the Union of Vepsian Youth Vepsan Vezad, offered traditional Vepsian pies to the guests after her presentation.
The National Library of Karelia prepared a book exhibition Christmas without Borders. Our guests were very interested to examine the Christmas Suitcase presented by the Karelia-Estonia Friendship Society and an exhibition of Christmas decorations by the Polish National and Cultural Autonomy of Karelia.
