15/05/2026. Awarding ceremony of the Kraeved 2026 competition

The National Library of Karelia held the official ceremony of summing up the results and awarding the winners of the 10th Republican competition of scientific research works Kraeved (“Local Historian”) 2026.
The Kraeved competition received 48 works from researchers of all ages, from schoolchildren to experienced local historians. Participants represented a wide range of districts, including the cities of Karelia – Petrozavodsk, Kem, Kondopoga, Segezha, Sortavala, and Pitkyaranta – and several districts of the republic: Belomorsky, Loukhsky, Medvezhyegorsky, Olonetsky, Prionezhsky, and Segezhsky. The authors presented research on various topics: family history, the history of settlements, the events of the Great Patriotic War, and the culture and nature of their native regions. Some of the participants were familiar with the competition and have already participated in the contest.
The organizers of the competition: the National Library of the Republic of Karelia; the National Museum of the Republic of Karelia; the Karelian Institute for Education Development; the Institute of Language, Literature, and History of the Karelian Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences; the Kizhi State Historical, Architectural, and Ethnographic Museum-Reserve; and the Genealogical Society of Karelia. Representatives of these organizations were the members of the competition's expert jury.

Best Work in the Field of Local History Research
1st place. Valentina Petrash, Natalya Terentyeva – “Pages of the History of Kindergartens in the City of Olonets”;
2nd place. Olga Khramtsova – “Who Wrote the Lukukirja?”;
3rd place. Natalya Zheleznova – “The Sun Won't Rise, but the Newspaper will Come Out!”: Pages from History and the Present Day. For the 85th Anniversary of the Novaya Ladoga newspaper”.
Special diploma:
Anna Goncharova – “The History and Ensembles of the Old Cultural Centre in Kem”.
The Best Work in the Field of Local Literature Research
1st place. Valentina Libertsova – “The Motives of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia in the Translations of Vladimir Brendoev”;
2nd place. Olga Kravtsova – “Creation of a Local History Work for Children “Tales of the Long Shore”.

Ivan Efremov – “An Edible Fairy-Tale as a Means of Developing Creative Thinking and Fostering Interest in Reading in Primary School Children”.
The Best Young Researcher (schoolchildren, 5th – 11th grade)
1st place. Nikita Melekhin – “Karelian Underground Movements: Training and Activities”;
2nd place. Viktoriya Kotova – “A Nurse’s Diary as a Historical Resource. Reflection of the Realities of Military Hospitals in Karelia (based on the diary by A. A. Fedotova)”;
3rd place. Artem Oskin – “The Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Aleksandrovsky Plant in the Design of the Urban Environment of Petrozavodsk: Research and Artistic Display of Ancient Cannons”;
3rd place. Dmitry Mezhentsev – “Mannerheim Cross no 50”.
