30/09/2017. A meeting with Marja-Leena Mikkola
The National Library of Karelia held a meeting with Finnish writer, poet, translator Marja-Leena Mikkola and a presentation of the author’s book YLISTYS, hiljaa! (Eng. Quiet, praise!) composed of translations of poems by Marina Tsvetaeva.
Marina Tsvetaeva’s life and works were presented in books and poems at the meeting. The participants of the literary evening warmly remembered the traditional Tsvetaeva’s Fire - an annual memorial day for Maria Tsvetaeva being held in Petrozavodsk.
Marja-Leena Mikkola shared her experience of translation of poems by Maria Tsvetaeva and her personal attitude to Russian poetry. The specialists of the National Library of Karelia and students of the Department of Baltic and Finnish Philology of the Petrozavodsk State University read poems by Tsvetaeva in Russian and Finnish. At the end of the meeting, Marja-Leena Mikkola answered questions from the audience about the specifics of the translator's work and her further creative plans.
