16/03/2017. The opening of the exhibition The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia – 2016
The National Library of the Republic of Karelia opened an exhibition The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia – 2016; each year it is the beginning of the Contest The Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia.
The exhibition presents books, brochures, notes and dissertation abstracts. The contest is attended by books, published in the Republic of Karelia and sent to the Book Chamber of the Republic of Karelia from 1 January till 31 December 2016. There are 548 books at the exhibition. Among them there are literature on local history, industry, education, business, books by Karelian writers, books for children and literature in national languages.
Before the opening of the exhibition a round table discussion dedicated to the actual issues of book publishing was held. Issues of state support were the theme of reports made by the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karelia Anna Tomchik, a Leading Specialist of the Ministry of the Republic of Karelia for National Politics Toini Denisova and the Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Karelia Natalia Volkova.
A librarian of the National Library of Karelia Natalia Kozlova told about the Book Stall of the National Library. During the online report representatives of governing bodies, publishers, writers and librarians participated in the round table discussion had a unique opportunity to ask questions from the leading specialist in the field of legal deposit legislation Irina Eidemiller, the Head of the Sector for the Study of Library Collections of the Scientific and Methodical Department of the Russian National Library.
The exhibition is open in the National Library of Karelia till the 26th of March 2017. During the exhibition books published in 2016 will be evaluated by experts, and everyone can vote for favorite book.
Books participating in the contest are presented on a virtual exhibition the Book of the Year on the web-site of the National Library.
