05/12/2018. The book Sampo. The Runes of Pohjola has been given to the library
The National Library of Karelia received a gift edition, which is of particular importance to the republic and its inhabitants: the first edition of the Karelian heroic epic poem in Karelian language, its name is Sampo. The Runes of Pohjola.
Earlier, the Karelian epic poem was known only as the author's poem Kalevala by Elias Lönnrot, written in Finnish and based on Karelian folk epic songs. The poem was prepared by the public organization National Center of Finno-Ugric Cultures.
Work on the literary processing of national runes and drawing up text in the original language - Karelian, began in 2009. The authors of the book are Bakulin brothers.
The compilation, processing and foreword were made by Dmitry Bakulin, the Head of the art gallery National Center, a member of the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts, a graduate of the Faculty of History of Petrozavodsk State University. Alexey Bakulin, a journalist, an art historian, a member of the Writers' Union of Russia, a graduate of the Faculty of Journalism of the Leningrad University, carried out a Russian poetic translation. The book illustrator is Evgeny Bliumkin. The publication is interesting, fine and thought out to the smallest detail.
The National Library of Karelia thanks the Bakulin family for a wonderful gift - the books of the Karelian epic poem Sampo. The Runes of Pohjola, the result of serious scientific work, which will occupy a special place in the library.
