September 2, 2018:
The National Library of Karelia and the Center for Children’s Reading took part in one of the main autumn events of Karelia and Petrozavodsk: the traditional fish festival Kalakunda. The festival has been held in the capital of Karelia since 2000 and is rightfully considered a tourist brand of the republic.
Since the morning, hundreds of fishermen have thrown their fishing rods in order to know the winner of the competition by the evening.
Lovers and professionals of fishing, adults and children became the guests of the mobile library of the National Library of Karelia. Everyone found an occupation to satisfy soul. Those who do not know how to fish could learn the wisdom of fishing from the books presented at the book exhibition Let’s Fish with the National Library; experts on fishing participated in the quiz The Secret of Seas and Oceans.
Young lovers of fishing with excitement solved puzzles and crosswords, played a game Karelian Fishing and watched cartoons about fishing.
Despite the volatile Karelian weather, the fish festival Kalakunda was a success. And to those who have not been lucky with the catch this year, luck will surely smile next year!
