21/12/2017. The Karelian Center of Nicholas Roerich was opened in the National Library of Karelia

The solemn opening of the National Library of Karelia was marked by historically significant events.
That day the National Library of Karelia opened an exhibition The Paths of Nicholas Roerich by Roerich family Museum and Institute; the exhibition presented extensive information materials and also 22 unique bronze items from the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st centuries, thanka (ceremonial scarves) and originals of rare printed editions. The most valuable item of the exhibition is the painting Tibet (1943) by Nicholas Roerich.
A cooperation agreement on the project the Karelian Museum and Exhibition Center of the Saint-Petersburg state Roerich family Museum and Institute (the shortened name is the Karelian Center of the Roerich family Museum and Institute, a short name is the Karelian Center of Nicholas Roerich) was signed.
On the 19th of December numerous guests of our library listened with great interest a speech by the Head of Saint-Petersburg state Roerich family Museum and Institute Aleksei Bondarenko and watched a film presented its activities.
The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karelia Aleksei Lesonen, the Head of the National Library of Karelia Marina Nikishina, the Head of the Karelian Center of Nicholas Roerich Liliana Zhokhova have noted in their speeches a special role of researchers of works by the great master in the preparation of this event: E. G. Soini, Doctor of Philology, Honored Worker of Culture of the Republic of Karelia, Y. V. Linnik, Doctor of Philology, the Head of the Museum of Space Art, V. A. Nosova, the Head and E. M. Kornichenko, the Chief Museum Keeper of the Northern Ladoga Lake Regional Museum, Y. A. Gorbachev, the President of Karelian regional environmental organization "Svet Ladogi" (Saint-Petersburg), A. P. Sobolev, the President of the Research Foundation of the Roerichs (Saint-Petersburg). At the same time they emphasized that the interested support of the Head of the Republic of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov and the Chairman of the Cultural Committee of Saint-Petersburg K. E. Sukhenko allowed to quickly and efficiently implement the project.
Evening celebrations began with the speech of the Head of the Republic Artur Parfenchikov. He congratulated the readers of the library and its staff on the completion of the reconstruction and noted the special role of the National Library in the formation and development of the information culture of the inhabitants of Karelia.
The Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia Elissan Shandalovich, a deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Pivnenko, the Deputy Head of the Administration of the Petrozavodsk City District - the Chairman of the Committee for Social Development Rimma Ermolenko addressed greetings and congratulations to the participants of the ceremony, librarians and representatives of cultural institutions and public organizations.
In the second part of the evening the floor was given to the guests from Saint-Petersburg: the Head of the Department for Cultural and Historical Heritage of the Cultural Committee of St. Petersburg Julia Filippova and the Head of Saint-Petersburg state Roerich family Museum and Institute Aleksei Bondarenko. The Research Foundation of the Roerichs gave the National Library of the Republic of Karelia materials from its own collection: books and magazines, including rare publications from the beginning of the 20th century, reproduction sets of paintings by N. K. Roerich and posters.
At the end of the solemn ceremony, an agreement between the National Library and the St. Petersburg state Roerich family Museum and Institute was signed on the continuation of the successfully launched cooperation. The agreement was signed by Aleksei Bondarenko, the Head the St. Petersburg state Roerich family Museum and Institute, and Marina Nikishina, the Head of the National Library of Karelia.
After signing the agreement, the Head of the Karelian Center of Nicholas Roerich Liliana Zhokhova and our partners – representatives of the St. Petersburg state Roerich family Museum and Institute organized an excursion for the guests to the new exhibition, dedicated to life and works by painter.
Greetings and congratulations on the opening of the exhibition and the Karelian Center of Nicholas Roerich were sent to Karelia by the President of the World Club of Petersburgers
