13/06/2017. The Day of the Republic of Karelia was celebrated in Olonets
The Day of the Republic of Karelia has been celebrated in Karelia since 1999. Since 2013, the celebration was moved from the capital of Karelia, Petrozavodsk, to the districts of the republic. In 2017, the Day of the Republic of Karelia was held in the Olonets National District. The holiday here has a distinct national character.
The delegation of the National Library of Karelia traveled to the ancient Karelian city of Olonets to take part in the celebration of the Day of the Republic of Karelia.
The mobile library of the National Library of Karelia located on a site called Karelian Book near the Olonets National Library. On the shelves there were books about Karelia and various editions of Karelian fairy tales from the collection of the National Library of Karelia.
Besides books, visitors can see wonderful dolls in national Karelian costumes, a Karelian pannier, a board game "Journey with the Heroes of Kalevala” with wooden figures of heroes and a poster exhibition about the epic poem "Kalevala".
Our guests can browse books about Sami sacred places – seids – and Karelian stone labyrinths and also try to create their own seids using stone constructor. Using the magic Karelian cube guests can learn basic expressions and the most common phrases in the Karelian language.
One of the participants of the delegation of the National Library of Karelia was a children's writer, author of wonderful fairy tales for children Vera Linkova. Young citizens and guests of the city were invited to the autograph-session of the Karelian author. Vera Linkova presented her new book V dome na vorone (Eng. In a House on a Crow). This book was sold in a library book stall with the autograph of the author.
