28/11/2017. Presentation of the anthology of Finnish women's poetry
November 25, 2017:
The National Library of Karelia held a presentation of the anthology of Finnish women's poetry Voice of a Woman, poems were translated by Eleonora Joffe and Zinaida Linden.
The last century belonged to literature; it was considered an important social factor. At the same time, the 20th century became increasingly the time of strong women. Names such as Katri Vala, Helvi Juvonen, Eila Kivikk`aho, Aila Meriluoto and Maila Pylkkönen quickly entered the poetic canon of Finland. There are also younger ones. Sirkka Turkka writes lively and original poems, as well as Saila Susiluoto, Jenni Haukio or Vilja-Tuulia Huotarinen... Poets are always different, but they are all united by a passion for language, a desire to express what is currently living in their souls. Everyone has her own style and voice.
The book was presented by translator Eleonora Ioffe. Her translations aroused a lively response from the readers who asked Eleonora uneasy questions. In the collection of the National Library of Karelia in the near future there will be copies of the presented collection, which Eleonora Ioffe presented as a gift.
