21/10/2025. Names in the History of Karelia: Anatoly Gordienko
The National Library of Karelia's resource "Names in the History of Karelia" has been supplemented with a new name: Anatoly Gordienko.
Anatoly Gordienko (1932 – 2010) is a writer and journalist well known in Karelia. Honoured Worker of Culture of Russia and the Republic of Karelia. He worked for many years on Karelian television and was an author of television programs, documentaries, and books about natives of Karelia – heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
His novel The Death of a Division is especially popular. It is dedicated to the soldiers and commanders of the 18th Rifle Division who fell in the "Valley of Death" near Pitkyaranta during the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940. For this work, A. A. Gordienko was awarded the titles of "Laureate of the Republic of Karelia 2004 " and "Laureate of the Republic of Karelia Prize in Literature" (2006).
The resource Names in the History of Karelia contains biographical materials and photographs from the collections of the National Library and the National Archives of Karelia. Of particular value are the biography compiled by the writer himself and Anatoly Gordienko's autographs on books from the library's collection.
