15/05/2013. Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia 2012
In the Republic of Karelia the contest “Book of the Year of the Republic of Karelia 2012” was organized. On the 19th of April in the Puppet Theatre of the Republic of Karelia the award ceremony of this contest was held. There were five categories in the contest. Polygraphists, authors and compilers, editors and book designers were awarded diplomas by the Organizing Committee.

The best book in Karelian, Vepsian or Finnish language:
The prize was awarded to the Foundation of Creative Initiative for the book ”Vienankarjalan oppikirja: 3. luokka”/”Karelian textbook for the 3rd form” by T. Kuz`mich and J. Pankratjeva.

The best book for children and young people:
The prize was awarded to the publishing house BAREA for the book “Puteshestvie Timy po rodnoi Karelii: nash ozerny krai/Tima's journey through Karelia: our lakeland” written by Nikolai Kutkov. |
The best artistic presentation and printing quality of a book:
The prize was awarded to the State historical and ethnographic museum Kizhi for the book “Kizhi: album and guidebook” (compiled by I. Melnikov, photos O. Semenenko). |
The best textbook:
The prize was awarded to the Foundation of Creative Initiative for the book ”Vienankarjalan oppikirja: 3. luokka”/”Karelian textbook for the 3rd form” by T. Kuz`mich and J. Pankratjeva.
The best fiction or publicistic book:
The prize was awarded to the publishing house Verso for the book “V set'ah tvoikh/In nets of You” written by Dmitri Novikov. |
In the frameworks of the contest from March 12 to March 25 2013 in the National Library of the Republic of Karelia there were a book exhibition named “The Book of the Republic of Karelia 2012”. The exhibition presented books received by the Book chamber of the library as a free copyright deposit last year. Statistically in the Republic 25 publishing houses and 50 publishing organizations were working during the last year. Books in national languages (Karelian, Vepsian and Finnish) are two and a half percent of total amount of books published last year. About half of publications are textbooks and science books. |
