The penultimate week of 2014 was the most eventful to the National Library of Karelia. The library had guests from Karelia, Moscow and Finland.
On the 17th of December in the morning the library was visited by the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky. He took part in celebrations dedicated to the completion of the first stage of reconstruction of the National Library.
In the evening of the same day the library was attended by regular partners of the library from cultural, art, science and educational institutions. Spacious halls, high-tech equipment, new multimedia programs, library resources and services were presented during the program Life in the Library Style. In the margins of the meeting new plans and cooperation projects were lively discussed.
The Consul of the Petrozavodsk Office of the Consulate-General of Finland in Saint Petersburg Tuomas Kinnunen visited the library on the 18th of December. He participated in the opening of an exhibition of illustrations by Igor Baranov to books by Aleksis Kivi. 2014 is an anniversary year for two Finnish writers Aleksis Kivi and Tove Jansson. Because of these dates Tuomas Kinnunen brought books by these authors as a gift for Petrozavodsk and other Karelia libraries.
On the 19th of December the library was open till 11 pm.
The Day of Cultural Innovations started here in the morning. It was a concluding event of the Year of Culture.
The Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karelia Elena Bogdanova, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia Dmitry Kislov, the Director of the Karelia ENPI CBC program Marko Ruokangas and the Consul of the Petrozavodsk Office of the Consulate-General of Finland in Saint Petersburg Tuomas Kinnunen took part in a press conference which was held before the event. They told about the results of the implementation of Karelia ENPI CBC projects in the field of culture in 2013 and 2014 in Karelia and Finland.
The libraries presented the results of the project ”Libraries Make a Difference: New Forms of Libraries Activity for Local Communities” to the guests and potential partners.
At 18 o’clock the National Library opened its doors for young and active citizens of Petrozavodsk. A solemn rewarding of winners of the Youth Award “Y” has started.
The award was established by the Committee of Physical Culture, Sport and Youth of Petrozavodsk City Administration. Every year experts choose the best of the best leaders and mentors of children's and youth public organizations. During the event live music was played, girls and young men were dancing, reading books and taking photos. Despite the interesting program there were many people wanted to sit on a comfortable sofa and read a book.
Throughout all these days the specialists of the National Library of Karelia were welcoming hosts. They opened the doors of library’s new halls and told proudly about the work done and the plans for the future.
